The Fazenda Moco Mine is located in Central Bahia state, approximately 450 km west of the city or Salvador. The mine is owned and operated by Brazil Iron Mineração Ltda, our 100% owned Brazilian subsidiary.

Production commenced at the mine in 2011/12 under a trial mining license (Guia de Utilização – “GU”), at which point approximately 400 kt of high-grade DSO was extracted and sold to customers in Brazil, Europe and China. Production was suspended in 2014 to allow a programme of Resource expansion drilling to be conducted and to renew the mining license. Brazil Iron now has a GU for 1.8mt of production over 3 years and is advancing rapidly towards a full unlimited mining license.

Production is currently at a rate of 60kt per month of lump ore and 30kt per month of sinter feed. The company is also developing a significant stockpile of hematite breccia and itabirite, which will be used as a raw feed to produce pellet feed.

Since 2012, 8,000 m of diamond drilling and 5,000 m of reverse circulation was undertaken, which has delineated a Resource of 36Mt.

In 2016, international consulting company, Tetra Tech Inc, prepared a Resource update Technical Report in accordance with JORC 2012 code.

Current Resource contains 2.2 Mt of Massive/ Compact Hematite DSO, 1.3 Mt of Hematite breccia for Sinter feed production. The Resource also contains 33.4 Mt of hematite itabirite, which can be beneficiated to produce a 68% Fe pellet feed concentrate.

Ongoing and Planned Exploration

Brazil Iron are currently drilling near mine extensions and satellite deposits to expand the immediately minable inventory. Throughout the remainder of 2020 and 2021, Brazil Iron is planning to drill reverse circulation and diamond drill holes totaling 50km. This programme will significantly increase the Resource inventory, adding substantially to share holder value and mineable inventory.

Production re-commenced in Q4 2019, following additional process design and strategic mine planning. Current monthly production rates:

  • 90,000 tonnes of lump

  • 30,000 tonnes of sinter feed
