KEY TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Brazil Iron has completed a Feasibility Study based on the following project configuration.

7.5 mtpa

of green direct reduction grade pellet feed

7.1 mtpa

of green direct reduction pellets

5.0 mtpa

and hot briquetted iron (direct reduced briquetted iron)

The future of iron and steel

The key to decarbonizing steel production is the shift from coal-fired blast furnaces to electric arc furnaces (EAFs), powered by renewable electricity. With the right raw materials, this approach can achieve zero carbon emissions.

EAFs can only be fed with steel scrap and direct reduced iron (DRI). There are 337 mtpa of EAF capacity under development. Deficits in steel scrap and DRI supply are approaching. By 2031, McKinsey Co. estimates the DRI deficit to be 109 mtpa. To deliver the necessary steel sustainably, without emitting CO2 into the atmosphere, a substantial increase in sustainable DRI production is required.

Green iron ore beneficiation process with magnetic separation

Direct reduction grade green iron

Our world-class itabirite deposits will be beneficiated at the mine using magnetic separation and flotation powered by renewable electricity. The process will yield a 67.5% Fe concentrate suitable for direct reduction, a specification achieved by less than 3% of seaborne iron ore production worldwide.

Production of pellets and HBI will take place at the port complex, utilizing renewable electricity and advanced carbon capture and storage to achieve over 90% reduction in emissions from the outset, while studying the transition to green hydrogen to reach net-zero.

Feasibility study

Brazil Iron is currently completing a Feasibility Study based on the following project configuration: 8 mtpa green direct reduction pellet feed, 7 mtpa green.
